Summary:

White Ash Group has been engaged by a fully licensed Cannabis company to recruit their next Financial Controller.

We are seeking a seasoned Financial Controller to lead financial operations and ensure the company’s financial integrity. This role is pivotal in financial planning, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with Canada’s cannabis industry regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, and Inventory Accounting. 
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements in compliance with IFRS. 
  • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting of excise duties, ensuring compliance with the Cannabis Act and Canada revenue agency. 
  • Develop and maintain internal control policies and procedures to ensure financial integrity. 
  • Collaborate with external auditors, ensuring proper compliance with all regulations. 
  • Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape. 
  • Collaborate with the executive team in strategic planning and KPI monitoring. 
  • Oversee the financial position of the company, ensuring sufficient funds are available to meet ongoing operational and capital investment requirements. 
  • Drive continuous process improvements in the Finance department and across the organization. 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field. A CPA designation is required. 
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. Experience in the cannabis industry is a strong asset. 
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian tax laws and the Cannabis Act. 
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and GAAP. 
  • Experience with Dynamics 365 or Microsoft NAV is essential. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments. 
  • Proficient in using accounting software and other IT systems. 
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
